People enter therapy because other means of solving problems have been unsuccessful. For most people, I believe, the major obstacle to finding workable solutions is insufficient information. Therapy becomes a process of retrieving and honoring that information whether it has been lost, buried, or not previously available. Primarily, this information is about who you are as a person: What is your personal, family, cultural and community history? What are your feelings, your emotional processes? What do your body experiences tell us about your past and present and the choices you make? What are the unique things about you that affect your life in unique ways? My goal is to help you find and feel comfortable making authentic personal choices by bringing to consciousness your unconscious ways of seeing yourself and your world, and empowering yourself to live from a present reality rather than a past one that no longer exists. My intent is to bring myself in an equally authentic way to our work through compassion, challenge, humor, and honesty about our relationship. Although therapy is not an easy process, it can be transformative in providing internal peace and meaning despite a sometimes chaotic and alienating external world.
